OCTOBER THANK YOU

By

Richard Demers

Traditionally, October is a month to reap the harvest.  It is a time to reflect on all the good things that summer has brought to our homes and a time to give thanks for all the good fortune we have been blessed to receive.  October is a time when the clocks fall back an hour, as the days are getting shorter.  It’s a time when the leaves turn bright colors of red, gold and brown.  It’s a time to clean our yards and prepare for another winter season of fun.  It’s also a time when volunteers of all ages and of all types gather together to offer another season of dedicated involvement.  October is at the same time an ending and a beginning.

For members of the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club, October is a month of planning and organizing for a season filled with promise.  It is a time to anticipate the events that will shape our friendships, to anticipate events that will leave a lasting memory of good times ingrained in the hearts of our members.  It’s a time to get the equipment in shape for a season of fun filled adventures on the trails.  It is also a time for the Club to give thanks to all the participants, members, volunteers and land owners who make snowmobiling happen in our great county.

A special thank you has to be given to our Province and to the private land owners, who have made it possible for our existing trail system to be developed over the last 40 years.  We now ride on over 120 KM of trails because of the generosity and the good spirit of our fine neighbors.  Riding a snowmobile on a groomed trail is an enjoyable family experience that for many of us is our only connection with nature.  Land owners through their generous support have allowed our trail system to be developed by signing land use agreements with the club and for that they deserve a special thank you.  As a club, we recognize that these crossings are made possible through acts of co-operation and kindness.  Because of the land use agreements the trails are made safe for our families and safe for the land owners.  Riders can be confident that if they follow the signs and respect the trail they will be operating their machines in conditions that are optimum to ensure a fun filled adventure.  The land owner can be confident that the club will maintain these crossings with proper signage and that unwanted activity on their land can be minimized.  This win-win scenario is what makes snowmobiling in Lac Ste. Anne County an amazing winter activity.  To all land owners we appreciate your assistance and your support.

This October is especially important because it is the start of our 40th year as an organization.  It is important that all current, past and potential members join our club to celebrate what promises to be a great season of snowmobiling.  Club membership and a trail permit only costs $70.00.  This will allow you to ride on any trail in Alberta, all season long.  October is a time for members to contribute their ideas for club activities and for club rides.  It is a time to reconnect with the club or to join for the first time.  It’s a time to participate in making the 2010 – 2011 snowmobile season a memorable 40th anniversary.  Lets plan our rides together, let’s plan our family outings, let’s get together and make this season the safest and most social of all.  After all, it is always more fun to ride together.

And staying connected has never been easier.  Just check out our new web site for upcoming events and activities: go to www.absnowmobiling.com for up to date information about the club and upcoming events.  Remember to give us your feedback about our trails and our club.  Participate in the club by volunteering.  Volunteering does not have to be a big commitment and it does not have to involve an enormous amount of time.  Volunteering can be very flexible.  When people participate, their club comes alive and is more fun.  Every activity is enhanced. And the club members have more fun.  So we look forward to getting to know you and your family.  This is your year to get involved.  Join the fun and remember to attend the meetings.

To all who have volunteered in the past the club wants to thank you for your contribution.  Without your efforts we would not have achieved the great success we have over the last 40 years.  We want to dedicate October to our volunteers.  Your priority to make the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club a fun experience has been outstanding.  Thank you to all who volunteer for the benefit of the members of the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club.

October is a little early for snow.  We still yearn for the warmth of a sunny afternoon.  But, it is a time to reflect on the summer and a time to anticipate the winter yet to come. At the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club, we wish for lots of snow.  Let’s make this year a year to remember.  Let’s go Snowmobiling!  Let’s go Snowmobiling together!

First meeting of the new season is Saturday November 6, 2010 at the Alberta Beach Seniors Center at 7:00, everyone welcome.
