Sno Mo Days – Feb 2011

What do you do when you wake up on a Saturday morning in February to a temperature of -35 degrees? While some people may simply roll over and go back to sleep others like the volunteers of the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club get up, put on a brave face and prepare for their annual Sno Mo Days Poker Rally.  Even though there was fear that no one may show up every single club and non club member who volunteered showed up to fulfill their duties.  So at 8:00 am the preparation began.  The crew that handles the wiener roast set off to start the fire and get the hot chocolate prepared, the riders that ride the trail to check one last time for safety and proper marking left at 8:30 and lastly the hearty fellows that handle the duties at checkpoint 2 & 4 left to set up a tent and heater so they could survive whatever Mother Nature had to throw at them.   The inside crew at the hall had everything in place to begin registering the riders.  The only question left.   Will the temperature drive everyone away and was all the hard work put into the event for naught?  We soon found our answer as over 100 people braved the cold and took part in the rally.   The volunteers were jubilant that so many attended and for the most part everything went very well.   The final totals were 125 registered and a total of 468 hands were sold.  The winners of the rally were:

Tied for 1st -  Kevin Drozdowski – high score – 395

Sharon Serven –score -395–Darwell

Second Place –Don Nelson – low score-85 ––Drayton Valley AB

Third Place – Tammy Roblin-2nd high hand-380- Spruce Grove

Another big winner for the day was the Alberta Beach Fire Dept.  The Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club donated $1,000.00 towards the purchase of the new Jaws of Life.
